Unlike the systematic recording made in other countries, in Greece there are no official figures but estimates, according to which the annual number of deaths due to medical errors is around 6,000, of which very few arrive in the halls of the courts.
The analysis demonstrated that in 56% of cases brought to justice had as a result the death of the patient. In most of them the doctor was found guilty of manslaughter through negligence. Of course, the conviction of a doctor has an impact on his career only when it is final. In any other case, the disciplinary bodies of the Medical Clubs cannot halt the responsible doctors from keep on practicing their specialty.

As the research shows, in the period 2006-2010, all cases that were brought to justice, gave right to the patients.
The majority of doctors found guilty were surgeons, obstetricians, gynecologists and physicians.
In the case of deaths hospitals were advised to pay hundreds of thousands of euros to patients or their relatives.
Special reference is made in the study in for the liability of doctors who are being trained in their specialty in Greek hospitals, who are often accused by patients, which attributed to malfunctions of the Greek National Health System.
Also, responsibility for medical errors detected in anesthesiologists, neurosurgeons, orthopedists and cardiologists.
